Then again, those of us that have had more than just a passing moment in the Fenestration Industry remember the technology when it was just a ‘thermal break spacer bar’. We have mentioned before this is very old technology, regurgitated with a new name. Over a quarter of a century ago Jim Rawson (Epwin Group) met Gary Whitaker (Plygrange), and from then Epwin started selling what is now called warm edge insulating glazing units as standard, as did many forward thinking companies of the time. The problem for the WET guys, as it is in many areas of any industry nowadays, they want standards and they also want their own unique selling point (USP) - the 2 aims are not compatible. A market is driven by USP’s in the terms of how a product performs and what it means in the eyes of the consumer. Managing Director In Box Letter to the Editor - Reply to GED Dear Ian As you might expect we seem to have upset a number of our competitors by publishing the Edgetech Challenge – a cost comparison calculator that shows Edgetech’s Super Spacer as the most cost effective warm edge technology spacer on the market. However I’m not sure what the latest complainant is actually complaining about! A letter from GED claims the calculator is spin rather than fact and yet doesn’t offer any explanation or reasoning to back up this claim. Andy Jones In Box Letter to the editor Dear Ian Andy Jones' letter (Fenestration News, 21.5.09) says he was only asked by Swisspacer to 'change the description of the product on the calculator'. Just to clarify, we did actually tell Edgetech to remove all references to what was clearly our product from the calculator.
