The Fenestration News Bulletin this week will be sent to more than 15,000 recipients in just over 9,000 organisations aligned to the Window Industry. Making it an effective delivery platform to get your Companies message across. In The News Hands up, all those that saw a reduction of VAT from 17.5% to 15% as a good thing? Now put your hands down if you have yet to set in motion plans for the VAT going back up to 17.5% in 18 weeks time, it doesn’t leave too many, does it. 18 weeks is a relatively short time to originate the sale, get it made, installed and paid for. In 2 weeks time our Chancellor of the Exchequer will be claiming an extra 2p for every gallon of fuel purchased. It has been reported that our friendly glass supply industry has announced that as of 7th September prices are to rise by up to 30% (the question being asked are they in unison on this?). Meanwhile, the grape vine is receiving messages of PVC raw material shortages. However, knowing how some at that end of the chain play, these rumours could that have been set afloat as a precursor to implementing a price increase; we should be surprised at nothing. David Leng MD of Synseal also has a view on this (see below).
We are about move into another period where there appears to be 2 different window industries. With one sector (those with inbuilt growth) going out and endangering themselves by being exposed to potential customers, and the other sector (the lost & most vocal) wanting to be seen in harmony with those that they see as in the same boat as themselves. On price, there is only one right price and that is the one that ensures the funding for a future. On productive activities, is it the customer, a new customer, that ensures growth, or is it the views of the guy who would take them away from you? Meanwhile, Giles Willson of the BFRC/GGF was concerned at our view that it could be possible for his organisation to charge the consumer 3 times for the same standard of window (see below). Remember to update your links to the main Fenestration News website www.fenestration-news.com This is important if you consume the RSS feeds In Box Dear Ian This week many system companies will warn customers about shortages in PVC-U profile. The Force Majeure invoked by a major resin manufacturer will hit a number of system companies hard. It will mean profile rationing for many fabricators now and price rises to follow. Continuity of supply is vital to fulfil your hard won orders and protect your company’s future. Your system partner must be stable and organised enough to safeguard your supply of materials....[ more ] David Leng In Box Dear Ian We read with interest the article you published on the Fenestration News website as a result of the announcement from BFRC Ltd that the scheme for WERs is to be extended with the introduction of an Authorised Retailer Scheme. From 1st September installers and smaller fabrication companies will be able to register on the scheme and benefit from the selling and marketing of BFRC energy efficient windows under their own labels. Extension of the BFRC scheme in this way will allow new Authorised Retailers (Ars) to display a BFRC label in their company name and to demonstrate compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations. This is achieved by registering the BFRC rated product using the FENSA registration scheme. There are, however, some inaccuracies within the published article that we would like to address:- It is claimed that the homeowner will be charged three times for the WER labelling of the energy efficient window that they purchase....[ more ] Yours sincerely
Giles Willson GGF/BFRC objects to the views of the Fenestration News GGF/BFRC objection. It is claimed that the homeowner will be charged three times for the WER labelling of the energy efficient window that they purchase. This is not correct GGF/BFRC view. BFRC will charge for the registration of a licence and this then can be used to demonstrate compliance with Regulations Window installers wishing to become Authorised Retailers will need to obtain permission from the original BFRC Licence Holder (their supplier), complete application forms supplied by BFRC, agree to the Terms and Conditions of the AR Licence Agreement and pay the relevant BFRC fees. The so called third charge is for FENSA registration. This is the solution the GGF set up for window installers to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations. …[ more ] Senior Architectural Systems- advertisement
