The Fenestration News Bulletin this week will be sent to more than 15,000 recipients in just over 9,000 organisations aligned to the Window Industry. Making it an effective delivery platform to get your Companies message across. From the News Paramount introduces VEKA VS and offers 'B' rating as standard. New World launches cottage-style stable door. Exeter Glass Centre team up with Pilkington. Wembley Stadium 1-2 December for G10, with visitor’s registration now opens online. Edgetech makes it on the list for fastest growing companies for the 4th year in a row. At the Ricoh Arena DGCOS lines a conference for the 11th November. Euroglaze launches high quality marketing support package. Mind the Gap - Proskills Academy helps businesses to achieve best practice. CAB Launches Regional Breakfast Meetings SAS ramps up The Composite Revolution and is a 'Balehaus Winner'. C.R. Laurence breaks ground for their new 310,000 sq feet of manufacturing space. Door-Stop U-value certificates validated by BRE. From the feel of the media releases now emanating from Spectus Window Systems, there appears to be a change of gear with greater real engagement and understanding of the industry. A response from advertising Occasionally, just occasionally, we find here at the Fenestration News we are stuck with some strange dilemmas. Our function of distributing the news means we get to talk to people at all ends of the industry. We also get to hear a lot of opposing, if not contradictory, points of view on how to develop a business. That begs the question should we keep them to ourselves or share them. To be clear probably more than 60% of the Fenestration Industry knows exactly what they are doing, have a clearly defined route to the market place and will beat their sales forecasts. At the other end, the impression given is that people are just lost and befuddled. It is not that they haven’t got a clue, they have, they have just not been able to line up all the targets and find a meaningful way of hitting them. Our dilemma is do we attempt to teach our ‘granny to suck eggs’, illustrate better how others do it (which will have the effect of neutralising the efforts of the achievers, and also risk boring the majority of our readers) or do we just keep dropping hints in the hope that maybe some of the lost will think the process through and arrive at their own positive direction. This train of thought came about following dialogue with someone on how their adverting doesn’t seem to pull in the results they desired. It couldn’t be the advert that was wrong as they were one of the industries ‘big boys’, and as that was a fact surely everyone must respond and take notice of them. Remember, for all the latest news updated daily, check out the Fenestration News website @ www.fenestration-news.com A great attitude, but totally misplaced. First off, the thought process and the aims of the advert were missing. Was it to pull enquiries in directly or was it to provide an awareness level to support other activities (for instance a Salesman cold calling, unknown company hard, known company a little easier)? If an advert is to gain responses, does it need to demonstrate a buyer benefit or just highlight a company name? In this discussion the advert said this is our name we are big, and that was it, nothing else. There was no reason to respond, nothing to suggest they wanted you to respond and nothing to indicate how they could benefit the reader as a consumer of their products. The adverts were in fact just reminding all of their existing customers they were still in business. So the question is, if you are looking for a response to your advertising which is important the product and how it benefits prospective customers or is it just the recognition of your company name? Taking the cynical view, it is easier for an advertising company to sell their client a glamorous image of the company name, with a meaningless tagline ‘we are great because we care’ as this taps into the ego of the company boss. The harder option is to create the same sense of wellbeing with clearly defined benefits for the ‘new prospect’ that the company boss not only understands but is able to buy into. In Box Letter to the Editor - With the launch of window energy rating schemes from Certass and BSI Dear Ian With the launch of window energy rating schemes from Certass and BSI, things are perhaps getting a little more complicated for those companies who are still trying to understand exactly what they need to do next. Some window companies are still debating whether to go for Window Energy Ratings (WERS) or U-Values. Some are still hanging their hopes on a delay in the introduction to the revised Part L. We know now there will be no delay. ...[ more ] Yours sincerely Kathryn Dalgleish , Sales and Marketing Manager (UK and Ireland), Swisspacer Remember, for all the latest news updated daily, check out the Fenestration News website @ www.fenestration-news.com Senior Architectural Systems- advertisement
