Letter to the editor - Dave Frost, ER Certification, points out a very minor inconsistency with regards WER’s simulations. I said ‘very minor’ deliberately as most of us know this is nothing when compared to all the other inconsistencies at play when it comes to contriving the results.

So nearly had it all...

It was hoped this week we could leave the subject of WER’s in Doc L well alone, but as our inbox shows some believe companies are not treating it with the urgency they think it needs.

When the idea of a Windows Energy Rating was set up and came under the umbrella of the British Fenestration Rating Council it was one of the best marketing tools handed to the industry for years. What we had was a one off test to compare one window with another window in a similar set of circumstances. Brilliant, for those that took up the scheme they could present the consumer with a definitive measurement on performance that went to quantify price difference.

In essence it gave the fenestration Industry a marketing tool to create an edge, a Unique Selling Point. Those marketers that picked up on WER’s were able to push their companies forward to growth and prosperity. Not forgetting, at the time the doomsayers were predicting tough times.

What is so special about October 1st anyway?

October 1st brings us the revised Doc ‘L’, all well and good, after all schemes that set out to reduce the nation’s energy consumption is in all our interests.
