Yes it is flawed, very flawed

Just when it was thought that the Industry had moved on, well it has for most, some still feel aggrieved by the clumsy if not unrealistic handling of the Doc L situation from some quarters. Last week we received a letter from Daniel Williams, MD at Pioneer Trading Ltd, that falls into the aggrieved column (see below).

If one steps back and reviews why they are in business, then from there ask how do they ensure success? The answer is as always; to create profit, it is profit that creates tomorrow. Creating profit comes from identifying what is needed to cause it (profit) to happen. In most cases that means being ahead of the completion, or as it is more generally known having a sales advantage, a Unique Selling Point (USP). The original BFRC/WER set out to provide that advantage, a tool to be used as a differentiator, a way of defining relative performance at a moment in time under the same set of circumstances, something to build a USP around.

Yes it is flawed, very flawed, in terms that its findings cannot properly translate back into any practical meaning to those that pay the bill, the consumer. However, as an ‘I’m better than you’ tool it had its place until something else came along. ...[ more ]

Letter to the Editor - Anglian’s sponsorship of the climber Ian Ridley

Letter to the Editor - FENSA wrote back to say why it was unable to become involved

Dear Ian

A side effect to all the publicity DGCOS has had on TV, radio and consumer media has been the flood of calls from desperate consumers, hoping we might help where others have failed.

Consumers Direct, the OFT run organisation set up to track consumer problems, reported last year over 23,000 consumers who were still dissatisfied with the way double glazing, conservatory and roofline firms had dealt with their complaint. Over 500 have contacted us since we started this year and the calls keep coming...[ more ]

FENSA’s recent announcement on a ‘fast fix’

Dear Ian,

While FENSA’s recent announcement on a ‘fast fix’ way for companies to comply with the revised Building Regulations by stating that a soft coat low E – 16mm cavity or greater with gas in the cavity and warm edge spacer IGU will enable companies to comply has caused a stir, CENSolutions believes we can actually take something positive from it. We don’t think companies that have spent the time and money to get their windows energy rated should feel too despondent. Ultimately, however much progress was made by the few forward thinking companies that were driving the industry towards Window Energy Ratings, the industry as a whole remained woefully unprepared for the change. Something had to give. So what FENSA has suggested seems a reasonable stop gap solution. But it has to be just that - a short term answer. ...[ more ]

Yours sincerely

An Open Letter to the British Fenestration Rating Council

Dear BFRC

I was very interested to read the recent letter sent to FENSA registered companies advising on compliance with the revised Building Regulations by using the U Value method.

I was most impressed with the ‘Simple Method’ which does indeed appear to make it easy enough for almost anyone to comply; even people that don’t make windows at all. Like my dog for example. That is obviously great news for the whole of the glazing industry, allowing everyone to keep making and installing windows without ever falling foul of the regulations.

Except of course the 300 or so mugs who, like me, ...[ more ]

Kind Regards

Daniel Williams, Managing Director, Pioneer Trading Ltd.
