The Fenestration News Bulletin this week will be sent to more than 14,000 recipients in just over 9,000 organisations aligned to the Window Industry. Making it an effective delivery platform to get your Companies message across. From the News News shorts: - Network VEKA: - members have been urged to use the organisation’s support package to the full, it is the best the industry has ever had. More than 40 separate benefits every member could depend on, at an extremely low cost. Network VEKA's: - recruitment figures for 2011 are a massive 68% up on last year, according to MD John Ogilvie. VEKA Group: - Andreas Hartleif, “We strongly believe that the UK window market, being one of the most important ones in Europe. This is why we acquired Bowater Building Products" VEKA: -the fully sculptured casement window in white from VEKA can now achieve a U-value of 0.8 using 44mm argon-filled sealed units frameXpress: - to provide a conservatory for all seasons BM TRADA: - since it went live on 1st July 2011, the BM TRADA Certification Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) has attracted almost daily sign-ups. TGO: - the glazing ombudsman scheme has been launched for the glazing industry covering the installation of replacement windows and doors, conservatories and roofline products. The Glazing Ombudsman is sponsored by the Glass and Glazing Federation and FENSA to provide financial stability. Conservatory Outlet: - an amusing take on the need to move on to triple-glazing. Of course as we all know the 'A' rated window needs a heat store and the right elevation to be effective, something not always achievable. Whereas triple-glazing just does what it says on the tin, and generally the heat saving matches the aspiration of the marketing department. " ": - have just held a Trade Open Day where they launched more than two dozen new products and services for their customers. " ": - the first WHS Halo customer to manufacture their new integral or run-through sash horn windows " ": - have just appointed Derrith Turner as Director of Human Resources. " ": - launch new integral sash horn window, available across both chamfered and featured 70mm systems in all foil finishes, solid colours and wood effects. Ultimate 70: - have launched a new suite of marketing literature that promises to help installers sell more in a challenging market. Solaglas - EcoClear: - have a comprehensive campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of energy efficient glass to consumers and help installers sell in the home. Synseal: - has had such a fantastic response to its online ordering system. Two hundred fabricators were quick to switch and they can now rely on the support of Vicky Bentley. Universal Arches: - the new website from Universal Arches allows for online ordering of both standard and bespoke products. BM TRADA: - competent persons scheme can now offer subsidised entry for DGCOS members. NSG Group: - one of the global leaders in innovative high performance glass and glazing solutions, has appointed Clemens Miller as President of Building Products. ER Certification: - the cost effective Independent Agency supplying assessments and annual audits necessary for Window Energy Ratings, is pleased to announce it has extended its UKAS accredited scope to be able to ratify the CMS Quality Mark for EN1279, EN12150 and EN14351. Balcony Systems: - reduced maintenance thanks to its innovative self-cleaning glass coating. Tradelink: - the trade fabricator is pleased to report a year-on-year sales increase of 23% at the end of its financial year. TuffX : - has once again taken the initiative by further expanding its already impressive and broad range of colours for conservatory roof glass. Remember, for all the latest news updated daily, check out the Fenestration News website @ www.fenestration-news.com In Box Letter to the Editor - Information Commissioners Office (ICO) has gained new enforcement powers Dear Ian, In light of recent scandals involving hacking, personal data and security breaches the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) has gained new enforcement powers and the ability to fine companies up to £500,000 for breaches of the Data Protection Act. Many companies falsely believe the Data Protection Act doesn’t apply to business data. However, where a business is also an individual, such as a sole trader or partnership, the Data Protection Act can apply. ...[ more ] Yours sincerely, David Lewis, Data Analyst & DMA Compliance Officer, Insight Data Ltd In Box Letter to the Editor - DGCOS is delighted the GGF has appointed a glazing ombudsman Dear Ian I’m delighted the GGF has appointed a glazing ombudsman. It’s good news for the industry, and good to see that DGCOS is winning the debate over the need for better consumer protection. However, it does seem somewhat of a U-turn - especially as some of the GGF’s higher profile directors have implied that an Ombudsman is not needed, and indeed that they already had one! But I applaud the GGF for keeping an open mind and listening to feedback in the media from DGCOS members who are in no doubt as to its benefits....[ more ] Yours sincerely Tony Pickup ,Founder of the Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme Stop Selling! Strategy is as much about what not to do as it is about what you should do. This is often ignored in the rush to achieve and especially when the pressure is on managers push the strategy to one side in an attempt to ‘make the numbers’. This gives some sense that they are ‘doing something’ but if it takes the company off the path then often that activity does not achieve the goals, and the ultimate goal must be making money. We see it all the time in fabricators, ‘sell anything to anyone’ takes over from targeted sales to customers that can be serviced and are profitable. If a strategy is right then it should not need to change that often, good communication so everyone knows what their part is and reviews to make sure that you are on track are what is needed. However events can overtake a strategy and flexibility is a key skill for any leader, you’ve heard it before but “no plan survives first contact with the enemy” and that is proved again and again in business. Sometimes a market requires a radical rethink and sometimes a radical rethink redefines a market. A good example would be Direct Line, they changed the whole way the insurance market works …and before the internet became a factor at that. Insurance brokers used to have shops and charge large commissions. Direct Line asked what does the customer want? And answered their own question .. Good prices, immediate cover and not to have to sit in a shop! ...[ more ] © Chris Ball August 2011 Remember, for all the latest news updated daily, check out the Fenestration News website @ www.fenestration-news.com Senior Architectural Systems- advertisement
