Pigs just appears as if by magic

Pigs, now there’s a word for you, add an ‘i’ and it represents what some see as the basket case section of the EU. For the Fenestration Industry Pigs represents a meeting point for those that talk about it and those do it. Technically it is a way of getting your view over, having an influence on what gets reported and making the noises that heighten a marketing proposition. Well, that’s the theory, but you have to be quick, once the drink kicks in it becomes a time to relax with others of a similar background and all those all important subjects get blurred – did he really say that, or was it a dream. Pigs goes some way in providing cohesion and putting faces to names of like minded people involved in driving the industry forward.

As if to highlight the dream the sun was out, it could even been said to be warmish, apparently that’s unusual for Manchester. Triple glazing - the way forward or just added value for the glass suppliers? Oh, here comes Godwin - on the sofa or speed networking? Hardly a mention of Veka absorbing Bowater, but the consensus was, with them now off the market the price for the others selling up will logically go up. One wonders if the sun was as warm in South Devon.

The Pigs ‘do’ was preceded by the Bohle Press Briefing lunch headed up by Dave Broxton, someone who is not only passionate about his company but the industry as a whole, not forgetting, it’s the team around him that ensures it all comes together. Bohle have had an exciting year with a lot more to come just over the horizon. This press briefing also meant the trade media editors had been receiving lubrication from midday onwards.

There are some out there that thinks that Pigs just appears as if by magic, it is there just when it is needed, at the right venues, at the right time. Yes on the night it has sponsors, but what most people don’t realise is that the organising, the searching, the communicating, the bringing it altogether is done for free by Claire Shilling of One Shilling Marketing . Claire not only shares Dave’s passion for the industry, but it could be said is the unsung hero of the hour.

Letter to the Editor, David Herman - Consumer Protection Report

Dear Ian,

I’d like to respond to some of the letters published by the organisations I reviewed in The Consumer Protection Report, which I was commissioned to write by DGCOS.

As stated in the report, I am keen to include updates and am happy to amend genuine inaccuracies in the next edition of the report, as long as these are supported with documentary evidence – and I look forward to receiving this.

The aim of the report is to improve the standard of consumer protection, starting with the general ignorance of that protection - both the public’s and the media’s. One aspect is the apparent secrecy of that protection – why is it so hard for a consumer to find out what is offered, if it isn’t in their marketing materials?...[ more ]
