More than one conversation going on here

Last time out we commented on a view expressed by REHAU’s Wolfgang Gormer relating to pricing in the UK for windows and doors. This has since been followed up by letters from Joe Skinner, Commercial Director Deceuninck Ltd and Tony Pickup, Founder of DGCOS.

Clearly there is more than one conversation going on here. On the one hand is the observation on how haphazard pricing at times seem for the installed products, then at the other extreme is those that believe all their problems would be solved if the industry was to adopt one standard price list.

It would be reasonable for those at the front end to say to themselves what do these guys in the supply chain know about running a business at the ‘coal face’.

They have a point, but if they stand back for just a moment they would realise it is they, those at the front end, that are the ones in a bubble. For them every day is spent fighting off the competition and dealing with the consumer....[ more ]

Apologies for the late response but I have been at EcoBuild for the last few days. I have just read your leading article in response to Wolfgang Gorner’s letter on the pricing issues with windows and consumers and would like to add my observations on the situation we find ourselves in. Firstly I must say that I support wholeheartedly your premise that we should be focusing on the way the windows are sold but I will get back to this.

Wolfgang’s point is very valid and I guess that some of the opposing views are based more toward the example he has used to draw upon. Personally if I had a choice to align the pricing policy for selling windows in the UK I would have chosen to go with the Apple model;...[ more ]
