Too often we forget the sages of old, in the eighteenth century John Ruskin came up with the quote - “It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Nothing has changed.

The challenge in the market place is to find the differentiator which creates the value. This is even more of a challenge nowadays, as difference has been drummed out of the system by the self-appointed powers that impose their vision on every walk of life. While checking our social media accounts recently I noticed that a certain picture is doing the rounds again. I'm talking about the man sat in the tattooist's chair as he is inflicted with what can only be described as a childlike stick drawing of what is supposed to be a majestic winged horse. The image bears the caption ‘there is always someone willing to do it cheaper,’ and this message really hits home to those of us who are painfully aware of that someone who is willing to do it cheaper, and exactly why they are willing to do so...
